Thirty-three countries to aid Dominican Republic in combating ASF
A total of 33 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean have agreed to join efforts to aid the Dominican Republic in combating African swine fever (ASF) and prevent its spread.
According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic, agriculture and livestock ministers from the countries will, by resolution, support the country in the implementation of sanitary, economic and social actions and initiatives as it tackles ASF.
The ministerial commitment was established by Resolution No. 14 during the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas 2021 held in Costa Rica, within the framework of the 21st Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (JIA) of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
The commitment includes management and communicating the risk for virus control, strengthening the updating and improvement of sanitary emergency plans with the respective development of ASF contingency plans, standardised operations manuals and recovery plans to protect production, trade and food.
