USDA trade mission heads to Vietnam on September 9-13

The United States' Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, Alexis M. Taylor, was to lead a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) trade mission to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 9-13, joined by representatives from 58 agribusinesses and organisations and nine US state governments that represent the diversity of US agriculture.

While the trade mission took place in Vietnam, it will also provide US agribusinesses a gateway to the Southeast Asia region thanks to participation by potential customers from Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Vietnam and the rest of Southeast Asia holds immense opportunity for US exporters, with rising consumer incomes, growing middle class populations, and favorable perceptions of US food and agriculture, according to the USDA.

In 2023, the US exported US$3.1 billion of agricultural products to Vietnam. As the third-largest supplier of food and farm products to Vietnam, the US holds sizable market share across several categories, including bulk commodities such as cotton, soybeans, and distillers grains, as well as consumer-oriented products.

During the trade mission, participants are expected to connect with key importers for business-to-business meetings and learn about local and regional market conditions through detailed market briefings from USDA Foreign Agricultural Service staff, industry experts and government contacts.
