Thailand seals Halal export deals
Thailand has signed export deals with two European groups in an effort to increase Halal exports.
The deals were signed with the French Casino Group and Belgium-based Dehaize to increase Halal exports of cooked canned food mainly to the EU market's Muslim population of 7-8 percent.
Thailand's current global Halal market amounts to only 1 percent, and the deals would offer many opportunities, especially for southern Thailand's Halal producers, to increase exports, according to the Commerce Ministry.
The French Casino Group has 9,850 outlets the Dehaize has 2,705 stores worldwide.
