Russia January-July Poultry Imports Slide 11.5% on Year
Russia cut imports of poultry in the first seven months of the year due to the introduction of an import quota and development of domestic production, the State Customs Committee said Tuesday. Poultry imports from outside the Commonwealth of Independent States were down 11.5% on the year to 653,100 metric tons.
The import quota for poultry, which took effect in late April, amounts to 744,000 tons until the end of the year. No import above the quota is permitted. In the next two years, the annual volume of the quota is expected to be set at 1.05 million tons.
Poultry imports from the CIS remained small in January-July, declining 26% on the year to 600 tons.
In 2002, Russian imported 1.375 million tons of poultry, down 1.2% on the year.
