Australian state under quarantine on bird flu

UN FAO's warning on the new deadly avian flu has arrived in Victoria named as avian paramyxovirus with a new strain that is immune to the existing vaccines.

The arrival of this avian flu created havoc in the region as millions of poultry items have been destroyed mostly pigeons. Authorities have asked to check poultry to ensure they are safe.

Authorities have called for quarantine method and it is considered that 14 properties are under that process. In order to ensure safety, industry heads has asked chicken breeders to keep their poultry under shed and in clean environment until they receive further notification from the authorities.

This virus has already created disaster in New South Wales in 1990s where much poultry was destroyed. Lock-ups for all domesticated pigeons have been asked by the Tasmanian authorities as well as South Australia and NSW authorities.
