Current UK sow prices nearly double of 2007 level
Current sow prices are nearly double the level they were at this time last year due to increased demand, according to the British Pig Executive (BPEX).
Prices are currently at about 126p per kg dw, the BPEX said.
AHDBMS senior market analyst Sue Fishersaid strong demand for sow meat has driven the price higher, while UK exports of carcass meat - mainly sow carcasses - went up 4,000 tonnes on-year to 21,000 tonnes.
Fisher added that most sow meat was shipped to Germany and the Netherlands.
Price figures will be updated every Friday on the BPEX website.
