China's pork prices down, egg prices up in August

Pork prices fell 3 percent in high-price areas such as Hainan, Guangdong, Hebei and Shandong provinces throughout August, continuing the drop since April.

Despite the drop, pork prices in low-price areas such as Sichuan and Heilongjiang provinces largely remained stable.

Egg prices continue to increase since late July, rising from RMB 7.92 per kilogramme in August 18 to RMB 8.24 in August 31, with the region in northeast China leading the growth. The price is expected to continue increasing in the short term, as poultry farmers are unwilling to rear more hens at the present.
