China's corn output has scope for growth

China's corn production has potential to grow more as the per-unit yield is very low now, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission said Monday (Sep 5).

Fang Yan, deputy chief of the commission's Agricultural and Economic Department, said the government will control the use of corn for non-feed purposes to ensure supply.

The government also plans to gradually increase grain purchase prices to encourage farmers and expand stockpiling of corn, soy and rapeseed, she added.
