Sweden's pig farms decrease

The number of pig farms in Sweden decreased by 172 between January 1 and August 18, 2011.

At the beginning of the year, there were 1,272 pig farms.

The drop indicates a reduction as 125,080 pigs were slaughtered.

Between January and August 26, 2010, 94 pig farms with 21,343 pigs for slaughter were closed down.

A difference between 2011 and previous years took place because large farms are closing down or reducing their operations.
