Vietnam approves breeding development plan

The Vietnamese government has approved a breeding development plan until 2020 under which the country's breeding industry will shift to industrial production, according to Nguyen Thanh Son, deputy director of Department of Livestock Production.

This will increase the percentage of closed house farming from the current 20 percent to 33 percent in 2010, 49 percent in 2015 and 60 percent in 2020.

The government has implemented plans to achieve these objectives including the zoning of commercial poultry farms.

Preferential policies have also been granted to individuals and corporations investing in breeding and processing businesses. The government will also provide financial support to farmers to convert to closed farms, including the leasing of lands.
