Cheap imports destabilising Ukraine's market
Ukraine's market is destabilised by cheap meat imports, according to first deputy agriculture minister Yuriy Luzan.
Luzan said at a press conference in Kyiv that Ukraine imported nearly 270,000 tonnes of meat and meat products in January to August 2008, but over half of them are of low quality.
The domestic market is being destabilised by imports of cheap and low quality meat products, Luzan said.
However, Luzan expressed confidence that decisions recently made by the government would help resolve the situation. Luzan said the Cabinet of Ministers had increased subsidies for sold cattle and poultry by 1.5 times and had taken measures on the introduction of modern technologies in cattle breeding.
