Agrocrop International gets 80,000-tonne Pakistan wheat order

Pakistan has awarded Singapore-based Agrocrop International Ltd. an import order for 80,000 tonnes of wheat for shipment by end-October, a government official said Tuesday (September 2, 2008).

In all, 15 bids were received in a government tender, which Agrocrop won after submitting the lowest bid of US$361.75/tonne, cost and freight, said the official with state-run Trading Corporation of Pakistan.

Pakistan plans to import around 2.5 million tonnes of wheat during the current season. Of this, Trading Corporation has finalised contracts for 1.516 million tonnes, the official said.

Pakistan is also in talks with the US government for 50,000 tonnes of wheat on a deferred payment basis; the agreement is expected to be signed by the end of this month, according to a Commerce Ministry official.
