Spain relocates bluefin tuna aquaculture cages to facilitate storm damage repair
Spain's Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment will temporarily extend the relocation of aquaculture cages in El Gorguel, the Region of Murcia affected by a maritime storm to facilitate repair, Fish Information & Services reported.
The storm caused high marine currents, resulting in damage to the cages dedicated to raising and fattening bluefin tuna at the Polígono de Cultivos Marinos de El Gorguel (PCMG) tuna farm area.
The relocation will be conducted in collaboration with the State Coast Demarcation and the Mapama General Secretary for Fisheries.
The temporary cage relocation will allow the company to review the damages to the infrastructure and repair mooring trains damaged by ocean currents.
The Region of Murcia, Spain is home to two major aquaculture farms in El Gorguel (Cartagena) and in San Pedro del Pinatar.
