Brazil's beef exports to Iran to increase to 122,000 tonnes in next four years

Brazil's annual beef shipments to Iran is expected to rise to 122,000 tonnes in the next three to four years, following the end of a three-year suspension on exports originating from the Brazilian state of Parana.

The ban was previously implemented after a Mad Cow disease outbreak in 2012. Its abrogation will benefit food processing shippers, Marfrig Alimentos and JBS SA.

Last year, the tonnage of Brazilian beef to Iran was 61,571 tonnes, an increase of 4% year-on-year, according to the Association of Brazilian Beef Exporters (Abiec). Value rose 3% to close to US$274.8 million in the same period.

As the sixth biggest importer of Brazilian beef (in terms of tonnage), Iran imported 84% of its beef from Brazil.
