US ready-to-cook poultry weight up 6 percent on-year
Ready-to-cook poultry weight increased 6 percent on-year to 3.83 billion pounds in July, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
In June, ready-to-cook poultry weight reached 3.66 billion pounds, up 2 percent from June 2007.
Preliminary total live weight of inspected poultry in July totalled 5.13 billion pounds, up 5 percent on-year.
Average weight of young chickens slaughtered in July reached 5.54 pounds per bird, up 1 percent on-year, while live mature chicken weight fell 5 percent on-year to average 5.9 pounds per bird.
In addition, turkey slaughter in July averaged 28.4 pounds per bird, up 1 percent on-year.
