Azerbaijan reaps 2.3-million-tonne grain
Azerbaijan's autumn and spring grains and legumes output, except corn, was 24.7 quintals/ha as of August 22, as compared with 19.8 quintals/ha in 2010, a rise of 24.7%, Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The wheat productivity was 25.1 quintals/ha, which is 26.1% higher than last year.
As of August 22, a total of 2.3 million tonnes grain (24.2% increase) were harvested from 930,800 hectares (0.2% decrease).
In general, the harvest is expected from an area of 933,600 hectares, or 0.5% lower than last year.
Wheat during the reporting period was harvested in volume of 1.64 million tonnes (an increase of 25.5%) from 654,020 hectares (0.4% decrease). According to recent data, 99.97% of the area sown with wheat was processed.
Spring field work in the country ended in June.
Over the first seven months of 2011, agricultural production in Azerbaijan grew by 10.2%, including crop production - 15.1%, livestock - 4.8%.
As said before Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov, in 2011 in Azerbaijan is expected to manufacture 2.5 million tonnes of grain, which exceeds last year to 500,000 tonnes.

"We forecast production of 2.5 million tonnes of grain given favorable weather conditions, 1.7 million of which will account for food grain," the Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abasov said.
Barley is planned to yield 800,000 tonnes in 2011.
Last year the country harvested more than 2.000 million tonnes of grain, which is 33% less than in 2009. Some 20.7 quintals of grain were harvested from each hectare of land, on average.
Abasov said today the country's demand in grain crops is 3-3.2 million tonnes.
