JBS sued by labour prosecutors so its workers can be tested for COVID-19
Brazilian labour prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against JBS SA to force the company to test its workers for COVID-19 at its poultry plant in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul state, Reuters reported.
The JBS Montenegro plant reported 36 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 301 workers suspected to have the disease. One worker died due to COVID-19 related complications.
Prosecutors said the 337 workers showed symptoms between July 14 to August 14.
JBS said to Reuters that it has not been formally informed of the lawsuit.
The Rio Grande do Sul state federal prosecutors said this is the seventh lawsuit filed against JBS since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Brazil.
JBS has maintained that it has followed federal rules passed in June to remain operation, in addition to obtaining advice from health institutions with regards to preventing COVID-19 outbreaks.
