US soy harvest may be delayed on adverse weather

The US soy harvest may be delayed if the current cool and dry weather continues, a Virginia-based agriculture analyst said Tuesday (August 26).

"August is a crucial month for soy and the weather has been dry in the soy growing regions of the Midwest. We need warm weather and rains for the next 30 days," said John C. Baize, president of agriculture consultancy John C. Baize and Associates, speaking on the sidelines of a palm oil conference.

He said the harvest could be delayed by anywhere between two to three weeks in many US soy growing areas where the planting was also late due to wet and cold weather.

Baize said there is the potential of lower yields and quality getting affected due to bad weather.
