Aviagen's Arbor Acres® has recently concluded a three-day event in Taiwan under the theme 'Knowledge and Progress', which attracted over 40 attendees from 23 companies located in nine countries in the region.

The seminar focused on assisting service and farm managers to achieve optimal breeder performance and gain a full understanding of the Arbor Acres support network as well as receiving updates on issues and challenges facing Asia.

Attendees were welcomed by Marc Baribault, the vice-president of Arbor Acres Asia Pacific, and Han Feng, the vice-president of Aviagen China.

Saksake Pacharadit, the assistant vice-president of Arbor Acres, expressed his opinion of Arbor Acres, which was followed by a presentation by Aviagen's regional service manager, Mark Wright, on creating change. The morning session of the first day was concluded by Dr. Young Ho Hong who addressed the current global crisis with avian influenza and bio-security.

Attendees participated in two practical workshops which encouraged direct participation and hands-on training.  One workshop - titled "Brooding - the First 48 Hours" - was managed by Debbie Fisher, Arbor Acres' service manager, and emphasised early brooding on bird performance and production.

The second workshop, titled "The Importance of Egg Handling and Storage", was managed by Yao Fang, Aviagen's hatchery specialist for Asia Pacific.

Day 2 of the seminar focused on bird management and coping with challenges in the field. Stan Keimer, Arbor Acres's service manager, started the morning with a topic on broiler breeding, rearing and uniformity which closely supported the previous day's session on brooding.
