Astarta raises H1 milk output by 33%

 

 

One of Ukraine's major sugar producers based in Kyiv, Astarta agricultural holding, raised its milk output by 33% or 8,200 tonnes to 33,000 tonnes from January to June 2011.

 

For the reporting period the milch herd grew 20% to 13,000 cows.

 

In general, revenues from sales of animal products increased 35% and reached EUR11 million (US$15.85 million).

 

The company's half-year report specifies, the volume of milk sales grew 28%, the average price of milk in Ukraine advancing 4% on-year.

 

Astarta also says that construction of the second phase of the dairy-goods complex in Poltava region of planned capacity 1,000 heads of milch herd.

 

The company recalls, on the whole in Ukraine the milch herd livestock shrank by 3.7% in comparison with the same period in 2010 (mainly for account of the population's husbandries), as a consequence they expect further decline in milk production and raising demand for high-quality milk for processing.

 

Astarta in early 2011 announced its plans to increase production of milk by 8,000 tonnes or 15.4% to 60,000 tonnes in 2011.

 

In August 2010, Astarta opened a dairy complex for 1,000 cows in Poltava region.

 

Astarta's core operations are production of sugar (its structure includes six sugar refineries), cultivation and sale of grain and oil crops, and production of meat and milk (more than 50 farm firms and a feed factory).

 

Astarta unites five regional subdivisions, namely the Poltavazernoprodukt limited liability company (Poltava region), the Dovzhenko Ahrofirma limited liability company (Poltava region), the Dobrobut limited liability company (Poltava region), the Khmelnytske limited liability company (Vinnytsia region), and the Volochysk-Ahro limited liability company (Khmelnytskyi region).
