Vietnamese big-sized tra fish loses favour in foreign markets

Lower demand is causing Vietnamese exporters to experience difficulty in shipping big-sized tra fish to foreign markets, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Since June, major import markets of Vietnam, including the EU, US and Australia have ordered small-sized tra fish of 650 -800 grams, instead of over one kilogramme as they used to do, VASEP added.

VASEP attributed the trend to the foreign partners' fears of serious weight gain and rising costs.

The trend has caused big difficulties for the local consumption of big-sized tra fish though the prices have decreased.

In an effort to support local farmers, the association has urged businesses to purchase all big-sized tra fish and negotiated with foreign partners to buy both small and big-sized ones.
