US red meat output up 8 percent on-year in July
The US produced a total of 4.25 billion pounds of commercial red meat in July, up 8 percent on-year.
The US produced 2.37 billion pounds of beef, up 5 percent from the previous year. Cattle slaughter reached 3.06 million head, up 6 percent on-year, while average live weight increased 4 pounds on-year to 1,273 pounds.
Veal production reached 12.3 million pounds, a growth of 16 percent on-year. Calf slaughter increased 41 percent to 87,900 head, while average live weight declined 46 pounds to 243 pounds.
A total of 1.85 billion pounds of pork was produced in July, up 12 percent on-year. Hog slaughter grew 13 percent on-year to 9.47 million head, while average live weight decreased 2 pounds on-year to 262 pounds.
During January to July, commercial red meat increased 6 percent on-year to 29.3 billion pounds; beef output increased 3 percent on-year; veal dropped 6 percent; and pork rose 11 percent.
