KFC Malaysia H1 profit up 24.1 percent

KFC Malaysia's profit in the first half of 2008 increased 24.1 percent, which reportedly helped to expand the integrated poultry sector.

In the first half of 2008, KFC Malaysia's pre-tax profit increased to RM 83.3 million from RM 67.1 million in the same period last year. Revenue grew 26.9 percent to RM 1.03 billion from RM 808.4 million last year.

As KFC restaurants posted a 24.7 percent revenue growth to RM 773.4 million, the integrated poultry sector registered a 35.4 percent revenue growth to RM 202.3 million. The profit growth of the restaurant segment was attributed to network expansion in Malaysia.

However, profits from improved sales was partly dampened by rising cost of raw materials such as poultry products, cooking oil, flour and potato-based products.
