Canada continues to invest in organic farming

The Canadian government is investing US$258,100 in support of organic farming.

The investment, announced by Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz will support the organic industry while they grow to meet increasing consumer demand for organic products.

The government's move is in response to rising demand for organic food around the world, Minister Ritz said, adding that the government is committed to supporting our farmers as they seize these new market opportunities."

The funding is being provided to the Canadian Organic Growers Inc. (COG) through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's national Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Programme (ACAAF).

The ACAAF programme, which began in 2004, has provided more than US$7.2 million to 74 organic projects.
