Bird flu returns to southern Vietnamese province
  
 

The bird flu has returned to the southern Vietnamese province of Ben Tre, according to the Veterinary Department.

 

Samples of infected ducks of two households in An Loi hamlet, An Binh Tay commune and dead ducks in Cau Vi hamlet, My Chanh commune under Ba Tri district were tested positive for the H5N1 virus.

 

By Thursday (August 14, 2008), the bird flu had attacked six poultry raising households, infecting 1,960 ducks including 905 deaths. So far, 2,865 ducks have been culled.

 

At present, four provinces of Dong Thap, Quang Ngai, Kien Giang and Ben Tre are yet to be free from the disease for 21 days nationwide.
