Pakistan to import 66,000 tonnes of soybean from US or Brazil

Soybeans importers from Pakistan are seeking to acquire about 66,000 tonnes of soybeans from the US or Brazil, according to European traders.

These shipments will be delivered between November 15 and December 15, 2015.

Import duties and sales taxes have rendered soybeans - to be used in local crushing - as a more preferred option of import than soymeal, hence, the significant spending by Pakistan on soybeans this year, said one trader.

Since the end of February, over 700,000 tonnes of soybeans were bought, and the trend is expected to increase following the implementation of a higher import tariff on soybean meal in July.
