Drought damage minimal for China's autumn grain crops
The lingering drought in China will not have a big impact on autumn grain production and autumn crops are growing better than the past years, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) said.
So far, drought has affected 4.53 million hectares of cropland, down more than 666,667 hectares from last year and two million hectares from the average drought area in the 2006-10 period, said Hu Yuankun, deputy director of the Department of Crop Farming Administration under the MOA.
The drought is mainly concentrated in Guizhou, Hunan and Yunan provinces and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The drought-hit areas in the four provinces and region account for 71% of the total in the country.
