Finnish pork output to be cut by 18%
Finland's pork productions should be cut by 18% in order for supply and demand to be in balance.
A total of 203 million kilos of pork was produced in Finland in 2010. Domestic consumption totalled 189 million kilos, and 37 million kilos were exported.
Imports of pork totalled 28 million kilos. If no pork was imported, production should still be cut by 7%.
According to food industry company HKScan's CEO Matti Perkonoja, the company is considering adapting contract production to demand. More detailed plans will be published at the end of August 2011. Also, Finnish food industry company Atria has considered corresponding action.
