China's Tibet plans US$10-billion agri development through 2015
 

 

Tibet Autonomous Region in China will invest an estimated RMB65 billion (US$10.1 billion) to support agriculture during the 12th Five-year Plan period (2011-2015), more than double that of the previous five years.

 

Ai Juntao, head of the regional department of finance, said that Tibet has continually carried out the preferential policy of the central government, with the support fund in agriculture amounting to RMB7.2 billion (US$1.13 billion) in the first six months this year, a 33.7% on-year increase.

 

With farmers and herdsmen accounting for more than 80% of its population, Tibet's priority is to improve living standards and working conditions of farmers and herdsmen, Ai said.
