Wisconsin to have bountiful corn harvest

In spite of a delay in the growing season, Wisconsin's corn harvest is expected to be abundant, according to the Associated Press.

Commodity analysts project the harvest at about 3.3 million acres, which would rank Wisconsin eighth in the nation in corn. Agricultural officials said 79% of Wisconsin's corn crop is in good to excellent condition.

The USDA forecasts the average corn crop yield to be 153 bushels per acre. In Wisconsin it is slightly more at 159 bushels.

The Journal Sentinel said the USDA lowered its corn yield forecast across the nation because of the extreme heat and dry conditions across the grain belt.
