Vietnam's Trung Son to run giant seafood plant

Vietnam's Trung Son Corporation will operate its giant seafood processing plant with a total capacity of 4,000 tonnes yearly in the third quarter of 2008, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said.

Le Minh Tam, deputy general director of the corporation, said once operational the plant will be the biggest of its kind in northern region of Vietnam.

Tam said as of late July 2008, the company exported 1,750 tonnes of seafood worth US$16 million.

Trung Son Corp. is carrying out pilot project to breed 1,000 hectares of white-leg shrimp in order to diversify seafood export items.
