Brazil, Egypt sign meat trade deal

Brazil and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the trade of beef and poultry products on Tuesday (August 12, 2008).

The deal was signed by Brazilian Agriculture Minister Reinhold Stephanes and Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed.

Meat is Brazil's main export item to Egypt, totalling 46,000 tonnes from January to July with a value of US$127.5 million. In the same period, Brazilian imports from Egypt reached US$7.8 million.

Brazil is also interested in importing fertilisers from Egypt via major cooperatives, according to Stephanes.
