China imports more vegetable oil and oil seeds
 

  

China's edible oil imports outpacing consumption.

  

China's net import of edible oil rose 21.4 percent from the period of October 2007 to June 2008 compared to the same period a year ago, exceeding the nation's oil consumption increase, according to China National Grain and Oils Information Center (CNGOIC).

 

During the period, China imported 6.13 million tonnes of vegetable oil, up 16.8 percent  

 

This does not include 4.88 million tonnes of oil yielded from the 26.14 million tonnes of net-imported edible oil seeds. The latter was up 27.7 percent.
