China dairy firm buys 364-ha pastureland in Australia
Tianjin Bright & MengDe Dairy, a subsidiary of China's Bright Food Group, has bought a 364-hectare grazing property in Victoria, Australia, its first investment in the continent, the company disclosed.
Tianjin Bright & MengDe Dairy chair Madam Yu said the property, located southwest of Victoria state between Hamilton and Portland, will give the company direct control over the quality of animals it will export to China.
"Import supply is currently controlled by two or three specialised trading companies, so this direct investment strategy will help us secure our supply chain", she said.
The newly acquired pastureland, known as Duncraig property and bought for $2.5 million, will initially raise 700 heifers for export.
Tianjin Bright & MengDe Dairy maintains a dairy farm with more than 20,000 milking cows in Tianjin, China.
Bright Food Group owns and operates China's second-largest dairy network.
