Australian pork producers incensed by anti-factory pork campaign
Australian pork producers are reacting angrily to the animal rights group, Animals Australia's advertising campaign protesting against factory pork farming.
A Pork Queensland board member said he is particularly shocked at the use of a child in the advertising campaign which calls on people to only eat free range pork.
The ad campaign, which focused on the perceived cruelties of factory farming, uses radio ads that narrated a pig's living conditions at the farm.
The ad also alleged that a pig thinks like that of a three-year-old child. The headline was further emphasized on the website, with the photo of a little girl placed next to a pig.
Producer Paul Taylor says Australian producers are leaders in animal welfare, so the advertisements are only damaging the progress the industry has made.
