Bangladesh frozen food exports on a boom
Bangladesh's frozen food exports are experiencing a boom in the international market, earning about US$534.1 million in fiscal 2007-08 (July 2007 - June 2008).
Maksudur Rahman, the immediate past president of Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters' Association (BFFEA) said shrimp accounted for more than 95 percent in the total export amount of frozen foods.
Rahman expects shrimp exports to the EU, Japan and the US to receive a further boost this year as Bangladesh has managed to improve quality that meets the standards of their key markets.
In fiscal 2006-07, frozen food exports brought in US$515.3 million. Frozen food is Bangladesh's second largest exporting item after garments, and the country has about 94 shrimp farms located mostly in the southwestern coastal areas.
