China lifts livestock, meat imports from the UK

China has lifted all restrictions on imports of livestock and meat from the UK, much to the delight of the UK pig industry.

Restrictions were implemented last year due to a foot-and-mouth outbreak in the UK.

However with the restrictions removed, DEFRA are taking immediate action to approve export health certificates for breeding pigs, pork, skins, hides, greasy wool and dairy products to allow trade to restart as soon as possible.

British Pig Executive (BPEX) chief executive Mick Sloyan said exports of pig breeding stock to China are very important to the UK companies with prospective big orders.

Sloyan added that the removal of restrictions will give British pork producers access to the biggest and fastest growing market in the world.
