ASF warning issued in Gloucestershire, England, UK

A warning has been issued about the potential spread of African swine fever (ASF) in Gloucestershire, England, the United Kingdom.

As ASF spreads in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa, people in the Forest of Dean are being advised on how to prevent a possible outbreak of the fever. Those enjoying the area have been urged not to leave food waste lying around.

According to the official government website, it is illegal to feed "catering or domestic food waste to pigs or wild boar". This is due to the risk of spreading the disease.

All leftovers, waste food or packaging should be disposed of in secure bins so that pigs cannot consume them. People are also advised not to take meat or meat products into areas where pigs are kept or where wild boar live.
