Spain forecasts 9% growth in 2011 wheat output
Spain's wheat harvest is projected to rise 9% to 6.36 million tonnes this year, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Soft-wheat production will rise 8.3% to 5.29 million tonnes, the ministry added.
Spain had a wetter-than-usual spring, boosting winter-grain yields, the EU's crop-monitoring unit said. Abundant rains filled reservoirs, meaning there probably will be no water constraints on corn irrigation, according to the EU unit.
Meanwhile, Spain's corn harvest will advance 12% to 3.69 million tonnes, it said.
