Australian beef exports to South Asia grow 5%
On July 2011, Australia's beef exports to South East Asia and the Greater China rose 5% to 13,899 tonnes swt compared with the same period of the previous year.
In addition to the rise in exports to Indonesia, beef shipments to Taiwan increased 4% on-year, assisted by the on-going strong demand for chilled product as US imports remain restricted. Australia also exported 8% more beef to Thailand during July, despite the import tariff quota already being triggered in early May.
Total beef exports to China and Hong Kong during July decreased 12% compared with the same period last year, alongside lower shipments to the Philippines (down 2%), Malaysia (down 14%) and Singapore (down 8%).
