India soymeal exports nearly triple on-year

India's soymeal exports in the first four months of the current fiscal year, which began April 1 to July, nearly tripled to 1.39 million tonnes, the Solvent Extractors Association of India said Thursday (August 7).

It said significantly higher exports to South Korea, Vietnam and Japan boosted soymeal exports.

Soymeal exports from April-July 2007 were 491,600 tonnes.

In July, soymeal exports were 282,438 tonnes compared with 142,155 tonnes in July 2007.

Rapeseed meal exports rose to 352,156 tonnes in the April-July period, from 280,500 tonnes the previous year.

Exports of rice bran meal fell to 51,964 tonnes, from 80,085 tonnes. Castor seed meal exports fell to 66,503 tonnes, from 112,975 tonnes.

The association didn't provide any reasons for the declines.
