Qianxihe, the official pork supplier for the Beijing Olympics, will be sending 400-500 tonnes of top quality pork to athletes and organizers.
Beijing Qianxihe is the sole supplier for frozen pork and pork products for the event.
Calling it "the perfect pork", the company's marketing representative said that the Olympic event is expected to reach consumption levels of 7,000 to 8,000 heads of pigs.
To ensure the pork is completely untainted, the company has spend more than RMB 20 million (US$2.9 million ) on an organic pig farm in Heilongjiang's Beidahuang, a region steeped in agricultural tradition.
The animals were protected from animal diseases by plant-based vaccines and were never fed antibiotics. The pigs were also raised based on natural behaviour-based welfare standards. Pigs were raised for six months, which is longer than the typical pig's 2 to 3 months.
Prices for such pork remained secret.
At present, China has only six companies running such organic pig farms.
