India to export 25,000 tonnes of corn for UN food programme

India's government has allowed exports of 25,000 tonnes of corn to Kenya, Somalia, and Burundi under the UN's World Food Programme, a government statement said late Tuesday (August 6, 2008).

The corn will be exported by the New Delhi-based Emmsons International Ltd, the statement said.

The shipments are authorized as exceptions to the ban on corn exports imposed last month by the federal government to cool down local prices and rein in rising inflation.
