CP Prima's Q1 shrimp output surges 86 percent

PT Central Proteinaprima Tbk (CP Prima) has produced 48,952 tonnes of shrimps in the first half of 2008, up 85.88 percent from the same period in 2007.

CP Prima produced 57,000 tonnes of shrimp in the first half of 2007. Vice president director Mahar Sembiring attributed the output growth to the shrimp farm revitalisation programme CP Prima undertook from 2007-2009. The programme covers shrimp embankment revitalisation and shrimp farming development technology utilisation.

Mahar said the completion of the programme in Wachyuni Mandira business unit at the end of 2007 boosted its contribution to the output in the first half of 2008.

Mahar added that CP Prima may be able to double its production this year as more business units complete the programme.

Meanwhile, CP Prima's net sales reached IDR 3.7 trillion (US$407 million) as of June 30, up 42.2 percent on-year, according to the company's mid-annual financial report. The report also said gross profit jumped 50.4 percent to IDR 749 billion (US$82.5 million) from IDR 498.2 billion (US$55 million) in the same period last year.

CP Prima is a vertically integrated shrimp processor that produces frozen shrimp, shrimp feed, shrimp seeds, probiotics and fish feeds.
