India's export restrictions to last until November

India's export restrictions, aimed at reining in inflation, will remain in place until November, the commerce secretary said Monday (Aug 4, 2008).

"Until November, when the new crops come in, whatever restrictions there are, they will stay," G K Pillai told reporters.

India has banned the export of non-basmati rice, among several fiscal steps, to check rising food prices.
