*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Sales of methionine remained slow in China as feed millers withhold buying with stocks ample. Moreover, the demand for poultry feed failed to pick up while the broiler and egg market showed little improvement. Hence, methionine distributors and traders held prices low in efforts to move sales.

In Europe, spot prices of methionine were in the range of EUR3.61-3.67/kg. Large volume orders were at EUR3.55-3.61/kg.

Market forecast

Demand for poultry feed should increase gradually towards middle of August as the making of moon cakes begins. Methionine sales should strengthen as a result even though feed millers will still remain cautious.

However, domestic supplies are expected to increase with more facilities ready for production, the upward scope of methionine market will be limited.
