Aqua Fisheries Cambodia Expo 2016

August 8 – 9, 2016

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Aqua Fisheries is the only international trade show for aquaculture and fisheries in Cambodia. It will be held for two days at Phnom Penh Hotel along Preah Monivong Blvd.

Among the items on exhibit are seafood products, fisheries equipment, marine biotechnology materials including aquafeed, and fishing articles. Exhibitors will also be treated to free tours of fish farms and processing plants.

Cambodia is home to some of the world's most intensive freshwater fisheries. The 2.6 million tonnes of fish caught annually in the Mekong basin represent seven times more than the catch of North American inland fisheries and more than 10 times the entire fish catch in Australia. Fish production in Cambodia is three times as big as the country's pig production and 20 times bigger than its chicken production. Most Cambodians rely on fish as a source of affordable protein.

The Aquaculture Roundtable Series (TARS) 2016

August 17 – 18, 2016

Phuket, Thailand

TARS 2016 is a follow-up to the 2014 meeting that focused on the recovery, revival and renaissance of Asia's shrimp aquaculture, and the industry's struggles to contain disease outbreaks, mainly that of the early mortality syndrome (EMS) and white spot syndrome virus (WSSV).

It will be held in JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa on Aug. 17-18.

The theme for the sixth series this year is "Shrimp Aquaculture & the New Normal". Despite some progress, in terms of management and disease preventive measures, vulnerability to disease outbreaks continues to disrupt production. Asia's production of farmed shrimp, on the whole, declined to an estimated 2.2 million tonnes in 2015 compared with the pre-EMS production of 3.2 million tonnes in 2011. Currently, non-EMS affected countries like Indonesia, Philippines and India contribute to the global shortfall in supply.

TARS 2016 will provide a neutral platform for key industry stakeholders to convene and exchange insights and experiences as to how Asia can reconcile, as a unified group, to increase its sphere of control in disease prevention and management. The objective is to bring the industry to a New Normal to better manage and control the variables in shrimp farming; build on industrialisation; and develop technical, operational and production efficiency.

TARS has become the industry's foremost opinion-leading aquaculture event in Asia. Leading international experts will facilitate the plenary and interactive breakout sessions.

TARS 2016 will also be the place for networking and dialogue among Asia's key players in the shrimp aquaculture sector, including CEOs, geneticists, farm and hatchery managers, integrators, feed producers, technologists, investors, marketers, as well as governments, NGOs and academia.

6th International Conference of Aquaculture Indonesia (ICAI)

October 27 – 29, 2016

Kuta-Bali, Indonesia

The International Conference of Aquaculture Indonesia 2016 is be one of the most significant regional or global aquaculture events held in Indonesia. This is the sixth event of ICAI which, starting this year, becomes the annual international forum for the aquaculture community—academics, researchers, students, market and industry analysts, government officials, policy makers and industry representatives—organised and hosted by Indonesian Aquaculture Society (MAI).

This conference is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas, information and knowledge between scientists and industry personnel on important issues in aquaculture and finding solutions to support the industry. This conference will be a meeting forum and current-information sharing between scientists and the business actors in aquaculture coming from all over Asia-Pacific and other countries.

The theme for ICAI 2016 is "Innovations in Aquaculture Technology for Sustainable Aquaculture in the Future". Global food demand will increase by much as 70% by 2050 due to increased population. High food demand has positioned aquaculture as an important industry sector and as food-supply and economic mover. Indonesia has the potential to be the biggest aquaculture producer in the world (67.7 million tonnes per year) consisting of marine aquaculture sector (47 million tonnes), brackishwater aquaculture sector (15 million tonnes), and freshwater aquaculture sector (5.7 million tonnes). However, this high potential is just utilised up to 11%. A sustainable aquaculture management is needed in Indonesia, including the development of infrastructure, investment, friendly environment and human resources. The aquaculture industry must reduce reliance on fishmeal and fish oil as a key ingredient in aqua feeds. A focus on looking for new sources omega-3 will be very important in developing sustainable aqua feeds.

This conference will tackle the many threats and opportunities and consider how to best manage the sustainable development of the global aquaculture industry. There will be plenary sessions and topics-based parallel class sessions for two days of the conference. The class sessions will consist of 1.) diseases and aquaculture sustainability; 2.) aquaculture management and technology; 3.) feed management and nutrition; 4.) genetics and breeding; 5.) aquaculture business and marketing (shrimp, finfish, seaweed, eel); and 6.) Farmers Day and applied technology forum.
