Netherlands' dairy sector told to reduce productions as milk prices fall

The dairy sector in the Netherlands is advised by Rabobank, its key financier, to withhold making new investments as well as consider reducing milk production in light of a significant drop in milk prices.

Milk prices could slid further in the next quarter at a time when farmers are still coping with financial challenges, the Financieele Dagblad reports.

One year back, the guaranteed price of milk, paid by major dairy producers, is close to 40 cents per litre. This has since fell to 28.5 cents for August although the cost of production is about 36 cents per litre.
