Denmark's Q1 pig, pork exports increase

Danish pork and pig exports increased from DKK9.10 billion (US$1.7 billion) in the first quarter of last year to DKK9.9 billion (US$1.9 million) in the first quarter of this year.

The European market, particularly the UK, Germany and Poland, continue to be the biggest importers of Danish pig products. Germany and Poland are also major importers of live Danish pigs.

China and South Korea, however, account for the biggest increase in exports. Danish pork exports to China grew from DKK350 million (US$66.7 million) in the first quarter of 2010 to almost DKK500 million (US$95.3 million) in 1Q 2011, whereas exports to South Korea increased from DKK43 million (US$8.2 million) to DKK208 million (US$39.7 million). There has also been a growing demand in China for other types of pork products than the traditional pig ears and other by-products.
