Ukrainian grain harvest reaches 30 million tonnes
As of August 1, 30 million tonnes of grain bunker weight were harvested by Ukrainian farms and yields averaged at 2.99 tonnes per hectare, according to the Agriculture Ministry on Monday (Aug 1).
Farmers have threshed 10.1 million hectares, or 88% of the sown area of early grains.
The ministry said in a report the harvested volume included 8.5 million tonnes of barley, with the average yield at 2.5 tonnes per hectare and 20.5 million of wheat with the yield at 3.36 tonnes per hectare.
Wheat yields averaged 2.8 tonnes per hectare at the same date in 2010, while the yield of barley was at 2.1 tonnes.
First Deputy Farm Minister Mykola Bezugly said last week Ukraine was likely to harvest 51 million tonnes of grain in 2011, up from 39.2 million in 2010.
